Anonymous Internet Discussion Forum

Why you will like this site.
^
There are things you love about online discussions, and things you hate about them. Why not keep the good stuff, and leave the bad stuff out?

Internet forum is an amazing tool because it connects all these different people with diverse backgrounds and origins, who can exchange thoughts. However, when people start discussing an issue, someone always comes and sais but she is a liberal (and therefore not right = left = wrong?), or he is an academic (and therefore smart and right?), and those kind of remarks switch attention from an idea to its proponent, and the value of idea itself gets lost. Other common issues are personal attacks (ad hominem) and similar logical fallacies. Yet another issue, maybe the most important one, is attachment to ideas. If I write something and later realize I was wrong, god forbid that I admit it; I have to stick to original claim or my 'honor' and 'importance' may diminish.

How to get to the essence of an argument.
^
This forum is about developing thoughts and stories with ideas meaningful to you.

Ideas are posted anonymously and without registering. You can simply create thoughts by selecting ideas that make sense to you. Each new selection brings new ideas and surprises. Some may teach you something and help you change your mind.

You can also: link any two ideas, make loops in reasoning (A -> B, B -> C, C -> A), bridge artificial categorization of ideas by combining relevant ideas from different topics.

Is this site a forum? What is it?

(All?) other forums have tree structures. (Only?) this forum has a graph structure. This is just a side effect of the forum intent (brainstorming / combining discussions / personalized stories).

Who is this site for?
^
This forum is great for someone who is ...

... curious and likes to explore the diversity of ideas ... honestly looking for answers and not just trying to 'win' arguments ... a skillful writer of dynamic stories ... a brainstormer who likes to organize ideas ...

Few relevant quotes:
Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects.
Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.
Whoever in discussion adduces authority uses not intellect but memory.
When names are not attached to ideas, people are more willing to consider them, and take them as their own ideas.
Number of views, comments, and ratings, serve as a biased aggregation of even more numbers, and may affect how people judge arguments. Here, at the beginning 'every idea is equal'.

Terms of use. (Guidelines for contributing ideas.)
^
You must be at least 13 years old to use this site. There may be inapropriate content for young audience, especially in 'sex' or 'romance' related categories. There is no censorship of words or ideas on this forum. However, there are a few rules that need to be followed:

Search before you post. Your idea may already be here.

Things not allowed:

1. Do not post or link to irrelevant stuff, spam, YELLING, insults, vulgar language, advertising, promotional or affiliate pages, pornography, etc.
2. Do not comment on mispelligns or grammars (you can rewrite, rephrase, improve misspelled idea and submit).
3. Do not use "chatroom" speak, or incoherent sentences.
4. Do not identify yourself or others, for example: 'some nice quotation' -- by Jane Doe (just write ideas that you [dis]like without citing sources unless a topic is about a source). Do not use signatures.
5. Do not post links in comments - relevant links are allowed only in designated fields. Don't write things like "check my link below", "I provided a link", "read my blog"...

Each violation will bring 1 hour of block from directly posting ideas - these ideas will be visible upon editor's approval.

Suggestions about rules are welcome. Please write if your idea was unjustly blocked.

Ignore posts that brake these rules and do not reply to them as they will be deleted.

Comments and links that violate above terms are usually removed within minutes. Links are visible to readers AFTER they click on idea. No links are shown to search engines.

Spammers, don't waste your time. I receive instant notification of new comments and it takes one click to remove your comments and to permanently blacklist your IP / IP-range.

How to edit idea that you posted before?
^
Comments can be edited:

1. Click on the comment you want to edit.
2. Write your corrected comment in the text field.
3. Check 'Rewrite last comment?' and submit.

Although you can edit comments, you are not able to delete them.

How to connect any two ideas from the same or different topics?
^
You can make a soft link or a hard link.

Soft link:

From the story page, simply do the search for an idea and if you find it click on it. The idea and the whole discussion following that idea will be attached to the end of your story!

This link will be available only during the current visit to this forum. Next time if you want to make a similar story, you will have to search for that idea again.

Hard link:

To put permanently an existing idea B after idea A:

1. Click on idea A.
2. Copy or write (at least a part of) idea B into the comment field.
3. Type the number from the tooltip of idea B into the password field.
4. Add correctly 2 numbers, and press 'Submit' button.

This hard link between 2 ideas will remain after you leave the forum, and it will be visible to other users too. Please try not to hard link ideas that at first seem relevant, but actually the discussion following idea B is not related to discussion preceding idea A.

I posted an idea, but it is not there!
^
There are 2 possible explanations:

1. It was made invisible because it did not comply with the terms of use.
2. It did not draw enough attention from readers, meaning that many people saw it but were not 'interested' in it. If this happens, you can simply rephrase and resubmit idea, and hopefully readers will react better this time.

Diamond of opposites - rating topics with 2-dimensional scale
^
The diamond of opposites is a sociometric (sociometry is a study and measurement of preferences) scaling method that simultaneously measures positive and negative responses to one or several statements. The best way to understand the diamond is to place several people or issues important to you here.

When you see a diamond <> in the top right corner of the forum, please rate a topic idea. Also, after exploring the topic and before leaving it please rate the initial topic idea again. This dynamic rating system makes forum more interesting by organizing topics in dozen more categories according to different 'qualities' of ideas within them.
