The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde

Dorian Gray is a narcisist. well, through the entire novel i though it was about caring about oneself, that anything is permitted and attainable, with no feeling of guilt or remorse...
later i guess it's more about what's beyond sensual pleasure, which even when satisfied, we would still find void in our lives.
something of higher nature that we should work to preserve and keep unscathed... the picture of dorian gray was a dumb book.
the fucking point of the novel was the same as all of Oscar Wilde's books: don't be vain. rich people are stupid. everybody's gay.
What is the symbolism of this novel? Is it that we are not what we appear to be to others? Or that we should care for our soul if we are not to become freaks? Or is it that if we strive to be perfect and therefore special, in our self-love we will lose everything else that matters? Something else? This is an interesting science fiction novel.
