How long would a river be if it could be straighten like a rope?

this has to do with fractals and the idea of dimensions between 1 and 2.

Actually, the opposite may be true. Water will form a river on the very solid ground that has been pushed hard by animals or humans. Elsewhere, it will just disappear in the ground. So it will form a small river downhill the solid ground, and as river becomes bigger, it will have strength to expand the 'road'. Since gravity acts everywhere downhill, I would think that water will follow the most downhill path, unless if ground is so weak somewhere so that water can make a hole and open up a 'road' for it before it goes along more downhill path.

I think it follows the path of least resistance. Either it follows the most downhill local path, or it makes itself a way along the least solid ground, a ground that absorbs the water the most.

Certainly it does. However, no river makes U turns all the time, nor is there a river that goes in straight line. They all are more or less curvy. How and why do they make curves? That depends on a river! How long would a river be if it could be straighten like a rope?
