Is torture ever justified?

you got me..... Even if it was justified, it is not needed any more thanks to brain scanning technology that can interpret our thoughts.
MRI have been used for a while to detect lies and emotional states within persons brains. Very soon we'll be able to read individual letters within alphabet while people think. MRIs pick up chemicals inside a blood, and blood intensifies its flow to certain parts of the brain depending on the thoughts we think. [1]
[1]Torture debases and corrupts the torturer - it places him a position of dominance and abuse that has a brutalizing and dehumanizing effect. No civilized nation can willingly allow its citizens to torture other human beings on its behalf. Torture and terror are only possible responses to terrorism. Why not torture the family and friends of the detainee to make him compliant or see if they have information? This situation would require that the authorities know: there is a bomb; it is about to go off; the suspect in custody has the information they need to stop it; the suspect will give accurate information within minutes of being tortured; that there is no other way to obtain this info. Since this never happened in real world, the whole scenario is a pure fantasy. Even if torture had the potential to save lives, it is unacceptable to sacrifice principle to achieve these ends. If you had a situation where a thousand lives were at stake and we could prevent those lives being lost by causing pain to a clear, admitted terrorist, is that morally wrong?
