Is there any relation between treatment of animals we eat (which are obese), and obesity in humans?

Hormonal and genetic changes that happen in animals due to non-natural things being done to them, like for example injection of growth hormones, preventing them from moving in cages for industrial farming, may possible find some way of affecting our hormones and genetics as well. Or, maybe it has something to do with modern treatment of plant, like corn and soy. Human nutrition (in U.S.) depends to a large extent on GM variations of corn and soy, which wasn't the case before obesity epidemics. [1]
We are what we eat.
