Americans were taught in schools that hating others for their differences is a really bad thing. Therefore, it is expected of Americans to be polite to strangers, no matter how badly they thought of them. That is why they may seem fake, as if pretending to like you more than they really do. However, Americans who understand other cultures and appreciate those cultures are by far the most polite. I strongly disagree, not everyone could be the same! Which parallel universe did you come from? I want your universe's America in our universe. In this universe Americans are known to be not very polite(which, is a polite way of saying being rude) and I would love to have your polite America in the universe. Interesting proposition but ultimately flawed in its central tenant. Some a mentioned by others users here, such as your ability to generalize from a singular experience to the cultural integrity of an entire population. But it's an interesting insight into how probably a lot of foreigners perceive Americans. Doesn't make it true. But who ever said that truth was the foundation of everything we believe..;-) Or maybe they are really very positive people, and do want to help you all the time when they are polite and smiling. Americans are always polite and have huge smiles because they are fake. And on what basis can you say that? Have you really never considered that they could actually mean the greeting as they say it? they are so fake as they greet each and every one but they are fake inside. Not even a question. Way to generalize an entire array of people (over 300 million). Also, as the most diverse country in the world, you have just shown your own ignorance in generalizing them. I am sure there are some Americans from whatever country you are in now. Disagree. Most people in the world are NOT fake. Most people in the world are just people trying to do the best they can for themselves and their families - I know because I've been out there and seen it with my own eyes. Don't confuse the highly vocal minority with the vast, silent majority. As for the initial statement, total bullshit - how can you characterise a nation of several million people in one sentence? Get real! And for the record I'm British, not American.Americans are not always polite, and they don't always small, and they are not always fake. We have a variety of personalities just like any other country. I certainly don't think all French people are assholes, a lot of countries do.Most people around the world are fake, whether or not they are polite or smiling. Do you really believe that the angry, impolite people in this world are honest and real? no. Everyone is stupid. Everyone is fake.
At least the polite people try not to get in anyone's way. They are not always polite.
